I have acne. How should I care for my skin?

Begin cleaning the affected skin with a mild cleanser; usually once in the morning and once in the evening (as well as post-exercise). Your physician or dermatologist may recommend a product that he/she feels will benefit you the most. Wash your face from under jaw line to hairline and be sure to thoroughly rinse cleansed skin. For men with acne, shaving is a necessity but must be done carefully. Test electric and safety razors to see which works best with your individual skin. Be sure that the razor is sharp and to shave gently, only when necessary. Women should change pore-clogging cosmetics to those labeled "noncomedogenic," meaning they do not promote the formation of closed pores. Also, it is best to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, suntan, or sunburns. [top]

When should I begin taking or applying my acne medications?

If you've gone to your physician for a diagnosis and to determine the severity of your acne, chances are that immediate treatment is warranted. Mild acne can resolve itself after a period of time if no intervention is done, but may leave permanent scarring. Because the only sure method for preventing or limiting scarring is treating acne at its outset, treatment should be initiated immediately and for as long as necessary. The more inflammation that is prevented, the less likely your acne is to lead to future scarring. In addition, treating acne early will also lessen the negative social impacts associated with the disease. [top]

What shouldn't I do to prevent acne flare-ups?

Do Not:

  • Take more than the recommended dosage of existing medications
  • Use topical or oral medications more frequently to speed clearing of acne
  • Stop medication or Actimine suddenly, or discontinue multiple treatments at one time
  • Pick or squeeze acne lesions
  • Use pore-clogging cosmetics. Instead, opt for "noncomedogenic" cosmetics and toiletries.

Can stress or food cause an outbreak?

Because hormonal changes are associated with stress, and hormones stimulate and overproduction of oil from the oil glands, it is possible. However, stress resulting from the condition itself (e.g. anxiety) may be the major influence to stress-related acne. Acne can wreak havoc on your emotional stability, changing behavior towards individual appearance. When this happens, persons often implement self-treatment that is inappropriate and may aggravate the condition.

As far as diet is concerned, there is no scientific evidence to date that a given food will influence acne. However, it is always recommended that you maintain a balanced diet to lessen the possibility of nutrient deficiencies and to promote overall health. [top]

Does it matter when I use my medications and Actimine?

It is always our recommendation that you check with the dermatologist and/or pharmacist who prescribed and filled your medication for dosing guidelines. Most physicians agree to take your medications at the same time, every day. If prescribed a medication that requires more than one dose, try to spread these doses out evenly. But in any event, you should always follow your dermatologist's recommendations.

Actimine, however, can be taken at any time of the day, and has been successful when used congruently with existing medications. If you suspect there may be potential for nutrient and drug interaction, again, consult with your dermatologist. Progressive Health recommends taking Actimine once daily and/or in between any scheduled dosing of medication(s) that you are currently prescribed. [top]

Why should I take Actimine instead of using Accutane?

Actimine is an alternative solution that we would recommend trying before going on Accutane. Accutane is used to treat a type of severe acne (nodular acne) that has not been helped by other treatments, including antibiotics.

However, Accutane can cause serious side effects. Accutane can cause birth defects if taken by a pregnant woman. It can also cause miscarriage, premature birth, or death of the baby. Do not take Accutane if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while you are taking Accutane. Do not get pregnant for 1 month after you stop taking Accutane. Also, if you get pregnant while taking Accutane, stop taking it right away and call your doctor.

Some patients, while taking Accutane or soon after stopping Accutane, have become depressed or developed other serious mental problems. Symptoms of these problems include sad, "anxious" or empty mood, irritability, anger, loss of pleasure or interest in social or sports activities, sleeping too much or too little, changes in weight or appetite, school or work performance going down, or trouble concentrating. Some patients taking Accutane have had thoughts about hurting themselves or putting an end to their own lives. Some people tried and have ended their own lives. There were reports that some of these people did not appear depressed. No one knows if Accutane caused these behaviors or if they would have happened even if the person did not take Accutane.

Accutane has serious risks that should be considered. If you feel these risks outweigh the benefits, we suggest you try Actimine first to see if our product can work for you. [top]

All of our products are formulated according to independent clinical studies that test the individual ingredients. We then cross reference those studies with even more references. Once a formula has been born, it is then carefully evaluated to make sure the ingredients are in the right balance for your body.

Our company utilizes corporate offices in Ohio, Idaho, and California. All products are manufactured in a GMP (good manufacturing practices) compliant, FDA approved pharmaceutical-facility.
