Reduce Fluid Retention
There are many different problems and conditions that can cause edema.

Causes of Edema

- Dietary deficiency - Inadequate intake of vitamin B1 (thiamine)

Low levels of protein (albumin) in the bloodstream may also cause edema.
- Medication Side Effects - Water retention and edema may also be
caused by drugs, such as high blood pressure medication and certain forms of
steroid medications such as corticosteroids and nonsteroidal

- Arthritis - Arthritic joints may swell with fluid, causing
localized edema.
Treatments for Edema
Treatment will depend on the cause of the swelling. One of the first
treatment options is to elevate the legs above the level of the heart.
Anti-inflammatory medicine can also help reduce swelling.
A few easy treatments are:
- Leg wedges to elevate the feet while sleeping
- Support socks and stocking
- Proper fitting shoes and socks
