Shampoos As Hair Loss Remedies
More shampoos are formulated today to include active ingredients known to slow, stop and reverse hair loss.
Since shampoos are already one of the most commonly used hair products in routine hair care especially by women, formulating hair loss products as shampoos is an excellent way to ensure people use them regularly.
Hair loss remedies take a while to produce noticeable results. Some even require as long as six months before the first new hair growth is observed.
It is easy to give up after only a few weeks of using them if the results are not encouraging. This is especially true for people who are already bald since it takes longer for them to see results from hair loss products.
However, improved compliance is only one reason why hair loss shampoos are becoming popular. Another reason is bioavailability.
Bioavailability is the term used to describe the extent of absorption of a particular compound. A drug with high bioavailability is one that is largely absorbed and transported to its site of action.
As a rule, the oral formulation of a drug will have a lesser bioavailability than topical preparations of the same drug. For example, less ketoconazole will reach the cells of the hair follicle when taken by the oral route than when used in a shampoo.
Because oral drugs face a lot of barriers during absorption, transportation and distribution in the body, they are usually formulated in higher doses than when they are included in topical preparations.
The use of lower doses brings us to another benefit of hair loss shampoos.
Since hair loss remedies delivered in topical preparations get to the site of where they are needed (papilla cells and the scalp) faster and in a higher proportion that the oral formulations of the same remedies, they can be used in smaller quantities.
Therefore, shampoos generally include less of the active ingredients than pills. Even then these active ingredients are more efficiently delivered to the skin cells. In addition, because less of the active ingredients are supplied, the risks of toxicity and overdose are significantly reduced.
For these reasons, shampoos make better delivery vehicles for drugs, herbs and supplements used in treatment of hair loss.
If you are experiencing hair loss, or are worried about it happening to you in the future, you are probably interested in finding out about the various hair loss products that are available.
Many of these products claim to be the best at treating this annoying problem, but there are a lot that just don’t do what they are supposed to do.
Fortunately, there are a number of excellent products that can do a lot to prevent and treat hair loss.
Here are eight shampoos that have been proven effective in the fight against thinning hair.
This is a therapy spray that is applied to the hair and scalp. It has been proven to stimulate hair growth in FDA trials, and showed positive results in test studies on men who used it twice daily for 24 weeks. “Copper Peptide Technology” is used for this shampoo.
This has a lot of granular extract that contains thymosin, which comes from the thymuses of calves. Another topical treatment, ThymuSkin is absorbed through the scalp to the blood, and goes to work to encourage hair growth.
It also helps to boost the immune system, and is made from all natural ingredients, so there is no fear of adverse reactions, and it won’t interfere with medications you are taking.
This is a deep cleansing shampoo that is specially formulated to help promote healthy hair growth. Nisim shampoo is made up of several different natural ingredients and nutrients such as inositol, biotin, and amino acids such as Cystine, Cysteine and Methionine.
Nioxin shampoo is made of natural ingredients and also includes several vitamins such as biotin, folic acid that work together to fight scalp inflammation, which can lead to thinning hair. The main ingredient in Nioxin is phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid, or ensulizole.
There are about 8 different Nioxin products for hair loss.
The shampoo is provided as part of a three-product system which also includes a conditioner and a scalp treatment (which is left on and supplies hydrolyzed keratin to the hair).
On its own, Nioxin shampoo cleanses the scalp by removing buildup of dirt and grease so the hair follicles are not clogged.
The shampoo also moisturizes the hair and scalp as well as antioxidants to protect hair follicles.
Natural ingredients are used to fight hair loss, and this shampoo can also work to prevent hair loss and promote hair growth. It has an anti-oxidant effect, hydrating molecules, hair growth stimulants and more, and is effective as a treatment for hair loss.
Revita contains proven hair loss remedies such as ketoconazole, copper peptides, emu oil, amino acids, biotin and methylsulfonylmethane or MSM.
These ingredients provide multiple pathways for the shampoo to stop hair loss and stimulate hair growth. Of these pathways, the most important is Revita’s ability to inhibit the production and activity of DHT.
DHT or dihydrotestosterone is the major androgen responsible for male pattern hair loss.
Androgen blocking properties in Nizoral help treat and prevent hair loss. It treats the inflammation caused by hormone activity in the scalp. The active ingredient is ketoconazole, and it is available in an over-the-counter 1% solution or a 2% solution that is only available by prescription.
Although ketoconazole is mostly an antifungal agent, Nizoral is commonly used to treat hair loss.
This off-label use might not have FDA approval but a few studies established the effectiveness of ketoconazole in treating alopecia.
One such study was done in 2008 and published in Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. It compared 1% ketoconazole to 1% zinc pyrithione. Both medications are known to reduce hair loss but ketoconazole proved to do even better by increasing hair density by 8.46% over the course of the study.
While ketoconazole is available both as a 1% and 2% formulations, the over-the-counter 1% topical solution is good enough for treating hair loss and has much lower risk of toxicity than the stronger prescription strength.
This is a botanically derived treatment that is safe for both men and women to use. Made from a combination of natural ingredients, it can affect the hormonal process that leads to pattern hair loss. It is a treatment that has tested successfully in both controlled and blind research.
This is a scientifically proven product that works. Revivogen is made of natural ingredients that stops that root cause of hair loss and enables healthy hair growth. This dermatologist created product provides maximum results without any side effects.
Revivogen Biocleansing Shampoo employs aloe vera and menthol to soothe inflamed scalps and provide a deep cleansing.
Apart from these two active ingredients, Revivogen also contains saw palmetto extract, silicone, panthenol, niacin, zinc, soy protein, jojoba oil and linolenic acid.
Active ingredients such as saw palmetto and zinc restore hair growth by inhibiting DHT production. Soy proteins, niacin, panthenol and linolenic acid provide the nutrients for hair growth while silicone improves the strength and appearance of the hair.
If you are experiencing hair loss, or want to try to prevent it before it begins, you should consider using one of the above eight shampoos.
They have all been proven effective in the treatment of this problem, and they will help to promote healthy new hair growth.
