Hydrocortisone is known to alleviate the swelling and itching that is associated with internal hemorrhoids. It also aids in facilitating easy bowel movements.
The medication is pushed into the rectal area, and it takes about an hour to be absorbed by the skin.
Clean the affected area with mild soap & warm water or a witch hazel wipe.

The long term use of corticosteroids and agents that reduce potassium levels in the body (e.g., amphotericin B, potassium-wasting diuretics, cation exchange resins) may result in increased risk of hypokalemia.
Pregnant and breast feeding women should not use any medication containing hydrocortisone, without proper consultation with a doctor or health care practitioner.
Anusol contains 2.5 percent hydrocortisone, which is the key agent used in alleviating hemorrhoidal inflammation and irritation.
The product is identified as hydrocortisone rectal cream or Anusol-HC cream. Sometimes, it is sold under the Tucks label.
