Review of Maxahair for Hair Loss
Maxahair, now Hairomega is a popular hair loss supplement. But does is work? Read this review and find out for yourself.
Hairomega, the product formerly known as Maxahair, is a great hair loss solution for those who would rather use an oral approach to treating hair loss. This product is a supplement that is meant to help stimulate hair growth.
These two main ingredients, saw palmetto and beta-siosterol, work together to help create the desired hair loss prevention effect.
Reports indicate that the combination of the two ingredients work together in blocking the enzyme that is responsible for transforming testosterone to DHT.
The rebranded Hairomega comes in two products, the new 3-in-1 and the old DHT formulation. These two differ in the number of active ingredients and the amounts in which the ingredients are supplied.
While both Hairomega products employ the same three-way approach to stopping and reversing hair loss, the DHT preparation does not contain as many of the active agents as the 3-in-1.
DHT or dihydrotestosterone is a very important cause of hair loss especially as we age. Testosterone, an important hormone found in men and women, is mostly responsible for healthy hair growth.
Testosterone is converted in the body to DHT by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase type II. Ideally, there is a balance between the amount of testosterone in the body and the amount of DHT produced from this testosterone.
However, with age or stress, DHT levels rise while testosterone levels fall. This is attributed to an increase in the activity of 5-alpha reductase.
The excess DHT circulates in the blood and when it gets to the blood vessels supplying the scalp, it binds tightly to the roots of hair follicles. In this way, DHT reduces the activity of hair follicle cells. The result is a shortened anagen phase of the hair growth cycle, gradual thinning of the hair and eventually alopecia.
This type of hair loss is referred to as androgenetic alopecia or male pattern balding.
To prevent rapid hair loss, the rising blood level of DHT must be lowered to ideal levels. Hairomega products use herb extracts to achieve this fine balance which then reverses hair loss.
However, excess DHT bound to the roots of hair follicles is not the cause of all types of hair loss. Two other causes have been identified. These are nutritional deficiencies and poor blood circulation.
Taken together these three causes explain all forms of hair loss, and since Hairomega 3-in-1 formulation addresses all three causes, it is a total solution.
The three in one system is meant to address the three main causes of hair loss.
Let's consider what the feedback is about each as it relates to both the previous Maxahair formula and the new Hairomega.
Hormonal Imbalance - Testosterone is the hormone that helps with hair growth, and both men and women have certain levels of it that is normal for their body. With age, this hormone is transformed into DHT more often, which results in hair shrinkage or loss.
Hairomega contains saw palmetto, stinging nettles and pygeum to help stabilize DHT levels.
Circulation Issues - Healthy circulation is what helps the body to prevent hair loss and eventually stimulate new regrowth. Like other body parts, hair follicles require nutrients from blood to perform correctly.
In this hair loss prevention product, the grape seed extract, niacin and ginko bilboa aid in healthy circulation.
Lacking Nutrition - Healthy hair follicles are what is responsible for producing strong, healthy hair. In order for the follicles to produce strong, healthy hair, the follicles need to be functioning properly.
In addition to some of the minerals and nutrients to help with healthy follicles vitamin B is also an excellent choice to help follicle health.
The ingredients in both Hairomega products can be classified according to which of the three causes of hair loss they directly address.
Inhibiting DHT Production
All the herbs in this group contain plant sterols which inhibits the 5-alpha reductase and, therefore, the production of DHT.
Saw palmetto extract is the main member of this group. It is obtained from the fruits of Serenoa repens, and also known to compete with DHT at the receptors of hair follicles.
Saw palmetto is mostly combined with the second member of this group, beta sitosterol. A preliminary study found that when taken together, these herb extracts demonstrated a 60% success rate in reversing hair loss in balding men.
Plant sterols from Pygeum africanum are also included in Hairomega products.
The new 3-in-1 formulation also includes extract of Stinging nettles whose efficacy in reversing hair loss has been compared to that of finasteride.
Stimulating Blood Circulation
There are three active ingredients in Hairomega products dedicated to improving blood circulation to hair follicle cells. These are grape seed extract, gingko biloba and niacin.
Grape seed extract contains proanthocyanidin which increases blood flow to papilla cells. Its activity is described as similar to Minoxidil since they both have a vasodilatory effect on blood vessels.
This herb is also known to contribute to hair growth by inhibiting DHT. Its net effect is to produce two anagen peaks in the hair growth cycle.
Gingko biloba is noted for stimulating microcirculation. This is the blood circulation specific to the capillaries which are the blood vessels closest to cells. Therefore, Gingko biloba is responsible for increased perfusion of hair follicle cells with blood rich in oxygen and nutrients.
Lastly, there is niacin which also has a vasodilatory effect and increases blood flow by widening the vessels supplying needed nutrients to the cells.
Reversing Nutritional Deficiencies
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies are also recognized causes of hair loss. In fact, deficiencies of Vitamin B1, B2, B3 and B5 lead to hair loss. To address such deficiencies, Hairomega products pack the vitamins of B complex in ample quantities.
Also included are Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Zinc, Cysteine and Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM).
The latter two are amino acids which, apart from serving as the building block for hair proteins, also supply sulfur to hair follicle cells. Sulfur forms strong bonds in the proteins of the hair and is responsible for the strength of hair strands.
Here is what users and consumers had to say about the hair loss system.
While Hairomega is generally tolerated by most people, it has been noted that saw palmetto – the main ingredient, at times causes indigestion. Therefore, it is advisable to take this supplement with food.
The Bottom Line
Maxahair, now Hairomega is meant to get your body balanced to help with better nutrition, circulation and levels of testosterone. If nothing else, you will notice other health benefits from taking the supplement.
For many users, one of the major benefits from this supplement is a decrease in hair loss and eventual hair regrowth.
Consumers also tend to like the fact that if you buy the product directly through the company or an authorized dealer there is a money-back guarantee. This makes consumers feel more secure about trying the product.
