Prostalex Plus is a dietary supplement for improving prostate health. It contains herbs, phytochemicals, minerals and vitamins proven to support prostate health and proven effective in the treatment of prostate problems. What are the active ingredients of Prostalex Plus and how do they work? Is the blend of these active ingredients effective in the treatment of prostate problems and urinary difficulties? Read on to find out
Prostalex Plus is an all-natural supplement from Long Life Solutions formulated to support prostate health and especially treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It can help shrink the size of an enlarged prostate and also relieve the symptoms of various urinary problems related to prostate health in men.
Prostalex Plus contains a proprietary blend of selected herbs, vitamins and other ingredients that complement each other.
The herbs present in Prostalex Plus include pygeum bark extract, lycopene, saw palmetto extract, pumpkin seed, beta sitosterol and green tea leaf. These herbs have been shown to be effective for treating prostate problems in multiple clinical studies
The other active ingredients of Prostalex Plus are vitamin A, vitamin E, zinc and selenium.
Prostalex Plus comes as caplets supplied in bottles and packs. The manufacturer recommends that users take one caplet daily.
Prostalex Plus is formulated from a blend of natural ingredients that have been demonstrated in numerous studies to be safe and well-tolerated. However, some mild to moderate side effects may be experienced when using the product.
Side effects commonly experienced when using Prostalex Plus include gastrointestinal discomforts, nausea and headaches.
For safety reasons, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid using Prostalex Plus. Generally, the supplement is contraindicated in the following group of people.
Medications to avoid when using the product include blood-thinners, oral contraceptives and diuretics.
Pygeum Bark Extract is a medicinal herb made from extracts taken from the bark of Prunus africana. It is mainly used as a natural remedy to improve symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Pygeum bark extracts also possess anti-inflammatory properties. This is especially helpful for users with prostate inflammation (prostatitis). Specifically, this medicinal herb works by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the prostate.
In addition, it contains pentacyclic triterpenes that are responsible for controlling prostatic cell hyperplasia.
The results of several studies done on pygeum indicate that this medicinal herb can significantly improve the symptoms of BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in men.
A 2007 study published in The Journal of Urology, also demonstrated the anti-proliferative effect of pygeum extract on rat prostatic fibroblasts. This study showed that pygeum bark extract can inhibit the proliferation of rat prostatic fibroblasts and can also inhibit the growth factors responsible for prostatic cell growth and prostate cancer in men.
Lycopene is a phytochemical commonly found in tomatoes and vegetables such as carrot, watermelons and papayas.
It is a powerful antioxidant that can prevent oxidative stress by breaking down free radicals and reactive oxygen species in the body. These free radicals are destructive to cells (including prostatic cells) and DNA.
Many studies have also linked the consumption of lycopene-containing fruits and vegetable with reduced risks of prostate cancer and BPH in men.
For example, a 2008 study published in The Journal of Nutrition, examined the effectiveness of lycopene in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. In this study, 44 patients suffering from BPH were recruited and randomly given either 15 mg of lycopene per day or same dose of placebo for a period of 6 months.
The results of the study showed significant improvement in patients who were given lycopene compared to those given placebo.
Beta sitosterol is a plant sterol found in fruits, vegetables, nuts and seed. It is one of the active chemicals responsible for the therapeutic actions of saw palmetto and pygeum.
Beta sitosterol relieves the presentations of BPH by blocking the enzymes responsible for the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (or DHT, the main androgen responsible for BPH).
A 2000 study published in The British Journal of Urology established that beta sitosterol was indeed effective in treating BPH in men. In this study, 41 BPH patients who were given beta sitosterol experienced significant improvement after 18 months of treatment.
Pumpkin seed, also known as pepita, is the edible seed of pumpkin fruit. The therapeutic effects of pumpkin seed on the prostate are due to its two active compounds, beta sitosterol and delta-7-sterine.
Beta sitosterol is the same compound discussed above and it is also found in pygeum and saw palmetto.
The other chemical, delta-7-sterine, is a steroid that competes with DHT for receptors in the prostate. This action reduces the effects of DHT in the prostate, thereby preventing both further proliferation of prostatic cells and the enlargement of the organ.
Pumpkin seeds also contain zinc, fatty acids and carotenoids. Zinc has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that are especially beneficial to men suffering from prostate inflammation. It is also important to prostate health because the organ keeps a rich store of the mineral.
A 2006 study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food investigated the effect of pumpkin seed oil on testosterone-induced hyperplasia in the prostate of rats.
In this study, a daily dosage of 2 mg pumpkin seed oil was shown to reduce the prostate size of these rats after 20 days.
Green tea extract is obtained from the leaves of Camellia sinensis. It has antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Its therapeutic properties are mainly due to the active compounds, catechins. These catechins are tannic acids with antioxidant properties shown to reduce the risk of prostate cancer in men.
In addition, the herb contains tannins, caffeine and flavonoids with powerful antioxidants properties. These antioxidants have also been linked to the prevention of cancerous cells.
For instance, a 2004 case-control study published in the Journal of Cancer observed that the long-term consumption of green tea reduced the risk of prostate cancer in men.
Saw palmetto extract is obtained from the berry of the saw palmetto, also known as Serenoa repens.
This fruit extract contains two bioactive groups of phytochemicals: fatty acids and phytosterols. These compounds support prostate health and can ease the urinary symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The phytosterols present in saw palmetto include beta sitosterol and campesterol. They act as 5-alpha reductase inhibitors and block the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Therefore, they relieve the symptoms of prostate enlargement in the same way as the plant sterols mentioned above.
A study published in the Journal of Urology, established the effectiveness of saw palmetto in the treatment of BPH.
In this study, a daily intake of 160 mg saw palmetto was shown to improve the symptoms of BPH in 44 patients after a treatment period of 6 months.
Stinging nettle is also known as nettle. It is an herbaceous plant and a member of the nettle genus Urtica. The root of this plant is commonly used for treating urinary problems related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
This invasive herb contains several groups of active phytochemicals that work together to support the prostate.
Some of these chemicals are responsible for the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of stinging nettle. These properties make stinging nettle useful for preventing cancerous growth of prostatic cells and inflammation in the prostate.
Zinc and selenium are essential minerals needed in small amounts in the body. They are both powerful antioxidants that can prevent the oxidative destruction of cells in the prostate and urinary tract.
Besides protecting the prostate through their antioxidant properties, these two minerals have been linked in some ways to prostate health.
For example, the prostate contains a large deposit of zinc but its effects in this organ are poorly understood.
Alternatively, selenium deficiency is common in older men especially those suffering from prostate problems. In addition, it has also been shown in some studies to reduce the production of PSA (prostate-specific antigen).
PSA are gamma-seminoproteins produced in the prostate. Although the antigens are indeed beneficial in small amounts, high levels of PSA usually indicate one prostate problem or another.
Therefore, by reducing the production of this antigen, selenium can effectively prevent the occurrence of prostate problems in older men.
Prostalex Plus is an effective herbal supplement that help reduce the symptoms of various urinary problems associated with the prostate.
Although the product itself has not been a subject of any clinical studies, its various active ingredients have been extensively studied and proven to be beneficial to prostate health.
Furthermore, the active ingredients of Prostalex Plus target a very wide range of prostate problems from prostate inflammation to prostate enlargement and prostate cancer.
It is also supported by nutrients such as selenium and zinc, both of which are known to be needed for the proper functioning of the prostate although their roles in the product are essentially complementary.
Independent reviews from users also indicate that the supplement is very effective for relieving urinary symptoms related to BPH.
On the other hand, some users were less than impressed with product’s parent company. Some users complained about paying more than the listed price and were subsequently not refunded. This can actually discourage potential users from buying the product because it can only be bought through the internet.
However, as a health supplement Prostalex Plus is effective and can help improve prostate health.
