Treatments for Relief of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The goal of treatment for CTS is to reduce the swelling and pressure on the median nerve.

For most people who develop carpal tunnel syndrome, proper treatment usually can relieve pain, numbness and tingling, and restore normal function of the wrist and hand. There are many treatment options including braces, drugs, surgery and natural supplements.

In the early stages of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, a night splint is the first treatment recommended. The splint keeps the wrist in a neutral position during sleep, minimizing pressure on the median nerve and relieving the nighttime symptoms of tingling and numbness.

Using a splint can make the symptoms disappear in some patients.

Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs

Aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs may help relieve pain caused by swelling of the carpal tendons. They may be most effective when used in combination with other non-surgical treatments; which makes it harder to determine how much the NSAIDS are adding to the benefits of the other treatments.

If inflammation is not the cause of a patient's pain, NSAIDS are unlikely to help. They also won't help with other symptoms such as tingling, numbness or weakness.

Cortisone Injections

Injecting the affected area with a steroid drug such as cortisone may provide some relief from symptoms.

This treatment may be useful in pregnancy-related carpal tunnel syndrome or in cases where using a splint and non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs have failed to relieve the symptoms. Relief can last up to six months and sometimes longer.

If symptoms recur, injections can be repeated, but not more than once every six weeks.

The injected steroid drug spreads around the swollen membranes and surrounding tendons and shrinks them, relieving the pressure on the median nerve.

Surgery (Open Incision or Endoscopic)

Surgery to relieve CTS is called carpal tunnel release.

It involves cutting the ligament that forms the roof of the carpal tunnel to relieve the pressure on the median nerve. It may be performed as an endoscopic or as an open procedure.

Endoscopic Surgery

At times, surgery can be done with an endoscope.

The endoscopic method is more technically demanding and it is important to select a medical center experienced in this technique.

Following surgery, most surgeons permit light use of the hand and wrist within a few days. Unrestricted use may take from several weeks to as long as a few months.

If surgery appears to be the best alternative for relieving symptoms or preventing further muscle atrophy, the patient and surgeon should discuss the procedure that will work best.

Natural Supplement for Carpal Tunnel - Neurophine

Neurophine ends deficiency and promotes wrist health by providing your body with condition-specific vitamins, minerals, and botanicals that support anti-inflammatory action.

Clinical study of the ingredients contained in Neurophine support its ability to promote circulation, reduce inflammation, and improve joint and nervous system health.

Neurophine changes the intimidating treatment for all Carpal Tunnel Sufferers. Not only is this unique formula non-invasive, it's effective, all natural, and carries minimal risk of side effect. It can be utilized daily, in the comfort of you home, for ongoing symptomatic relief of your CTS.

A few ingredients in Neurophine are:

  • Vitamin B6 - Those diagnosed with carpal tunnel are often deficient in Vitamin B6. Early Vitamin B6 supplementation has reportedly provided relief and allowed some patients to avoid surgery.
  • Vitamin C - Studies have shown Vitamin C can help reduce the risk of cartilage loss and arthritis progression.
  • Potassium - A major electrolyte that helps regulate the flow of bodily fluids into and out of tissues and cells.
  • Magnesium - Used to support many body functions, including nerve functions.
  • Copper - Copper may be a more effective anti-inflammatory than aspirin.
  • Methylsulfonyl Methane - This is a natural form of dietary sulfur and has been used to reduce or eliminate arthritis pain. MSM has been found to be helpful for many conditions, including arthritis.
  • Chondrotin Sulfate - A major structural component of the cartilage. Chondrotin can help stimulate the production of new healthy cartilage, block enzymes that break down cartilage, and normalize joint fluids to reduce friction.
  • BioCell Collagen Type II - Shaped like a rope, this protein provides cartilage with structural strength. Clinical trials have shown that Type II Collagen reduces inflammation and may be helpful for joints.
