Thymuskin is the collaborative work of nine physicians who developed this hair loss product. Their main focus was patients suffering from hair loss as a result of chemotherapy. Now almost three decades later, the industry continues embracing it as a way for consumers to deal with their hair loss from chemotherapy and other causes as well. Thymuskin – The Basic Rundown
This product, which was developed in Germany more than 25 years ago, is:
Thymuskin shampoo is only one part of the Thymuskin hair treatment kit. It is meant to be paired with Thymuskin hair treatment lotion but the shampoo is also sold separately. The active agent in Thymuskin is thymus gland extract. This is obtained from the thymus gland of calves. Generally, thymus glands shrink as animals get older. This is also true for humans. The specific substance in thymus gland extract responsible for the positive effect of Thymuskin shampoo on hair loss is thymosin. This hormone is secreted from the thymus gland located beneath the breast bone. Thymus gland extract is also called thymus complex, thymomodulin, thymic extract, thymic peptide, thymic protein, thymic protein A and thymostimulin. Apart from its use in the treatment of hair loss, thymus extract is also used in the treatment of asthma, lung infections, hay fever, and food allergies. Preliminary studies have also identified possible benefits from using this extract in the treatment and management of arthritis, cancer, HIV/AIDS, herpes and shingle. Thymuskin Shampoo – IngredientsSome of the ingredients of Thymuskin shampoo include: Aqua, Cocamide DEA, Sodium laureth sulfate, Urea, Propylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Sodium Chloride, Methyldibromo Glutaronitrile, Inositol, Soyamide DEA, Citric Acid, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, PEG-10 Olive Glycerides, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-120 ethyl glucose dioleate, Thymus extract. Thymus gland extract is not the only ingredient in Thymuskin useful in hair loss treatment. The shampoo also contains hydrolyzed collagen and elastin, inositol, tocopherol and sorbic acid as well as the extracts of the following herbs: Equisetum arvense or horsetail, Betula alba, Urtica dioica, Arnica montana, Tussilago farfara and Chamomilla recutita. While collagen and elastin directly contributes to a healthy scalp, other active ingredients like inositol and tocopherol protect hair follicles from oxidants such as free radicals and provide nutrients for hair cells. The herbs are also important. Horsetail, for example, is an excellent source of silica, selenium and cysteine which contributes significantly to the appearance and strength of hair. Some of these herbs also provide an added benefit by inhibiting the production and action of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which is responsible for male pattern alopecia. Lastly, Thymuskin shampoo is recommended to be used along with other natural hair loss supplements like Advecia to improve its anti-DHT properties and provide faster hair growth. The Autoimmune Basis of Hair LossThymus gland extract is being investigated for the treatment of cancer, arthritis and HIV/AIDS because of its ability to stimulate weakened immune systems. While it is still active, the thymus gland produces thymosin which is an important component of the immune system. The specific role of thymosin in the immune system is to regulate the production, release, signaling and activities of the cells of the immune system. As we age and the thymus gland shrinks, thymosin production falls and the immune system loses a very important regulator. Some experts believe this weakened immune system affects hair growth. A popular theory describes hair loss as an autoimmune reaction. This means that the cells of the immune system see hair follicles as foreign much like bacteria and virus, and they release antibodies to destroy the follicle cells. In fact, these cells and the antibodies they produce have been found clustered around hair follicles of people experiencing bad loss. By attacking hair cells, the rate of hair production falls leading to the early onset and acceleration of hair loss.
Thymuskin and Hair LossThymuskin shampoo contains thymus gland extract in a form that can be quickly absorbed through the skin. When applied to the scalp, thymosin is made available to the hair follicles where it can efficiently regulate immune system cells and the antibodies attacking hair cells. However, it is important to start early with Thymuskin before most of the hair cells are killed off and the hair follicles become dormant. This is the chief reason it takes a while for Thymuskin shampoo to show the first sign of reversing hair loss. Some users have had to wait for as long as 18 months before seeing positive signs. Still, most people who regularly use Thymuskin shampoo report that further hair loss is effectively stopped within a few months well before new hair growth starts. Unlike most of the hair loss shampoos sold, Thymuskin does not need to be used indefinitely to counteract hair loss. Findings show that after a couple of years, benefits from Thymuskin shampoo seem to last longer than for other shampoos. Different studies done to determine the effectiveness of thymus gland extract for reversing hair loss establish that it is useful in the treatment of all forms of alopecia in men, women and children. A study conducted in 2004 identified three important effects of thymosin on hair follicle growth. These effects contributed to hair growth by protecting hair follicles and encouraging cellular division of papilla cells. Pros and Cons of Thymuskin Shampoo
