Vitilax refers to a set of 3 herbal vitiligo products from Merry Clinic. Read on to find out what these products are, what they contain and how effective they are in the treatment of vitiligo.
Vitilax is a set of vitiligo remedies made from natural remedies and sold by Merry Clinic. The Vitilax family includes Vitilax capsule, Vitilax skin oil and Viti-Nutrient.
They are all formulated by Dr. Li, manufactured in the US according to the rules of GMP-approved pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
There are 150 capsules in Vitilax capsules and the direction for use is to take 6 capsules two times daily. Children over the age of 6 should only take 4 capsules two times daily.
The active ingredients of Vitilax capsules can help modulate the immune system to stimulated increased production of melanin.
There are 14 herbal extracts in vitilax capsules.
Psoralea Fruit is the fruit of Psoralea corylifloria, a medicinal plant commonly used in Ayurvedic remedies.
This medicinal remedy contains a number of phytochemicals but the most important in the treatment of vitiligo is a group of coumarins called psoralen.
Psoralen is a photosensitive medicine that is established in vitiligo treatment. It forms one half of PUVA (psoralen plus ultraviolet A therapy) which is the earliest light therapy used for treating vitiligo.
When combined with ultraviolet irradiation whether from sunlight or special UV lamps, psoralen is known to stimulate the repigmentation of the vitiligo patches.
Astragalus root is taken from plants belonging to a large legume family of herbs and shrubs.
These plants are both medicinal and ornamental. They are used in Chinese traditional medicine. The property of astragalus root that is most important in the treatment of vitiligo is the herb’s ability to suppress the immune system.
More specifically, astragalus extract reduces the levels of cytotoxic T cells and may be useful in preventing the autoimmune destruction of melanocytes (special skin cells responsible for producing melanin, the skin pigment).
By reducing the autoimmune attack that the body sometimes mounts against melanocytes, astragalus extract increases the chances of survival of melanocytes and increases the production of melanin to repigment vitiligo patches.
Chinese peony root is a herbaceous flowering plant native to China where it is also both a medicinal and an ornamental plant.
Among the phytochemicals found in Chinese Peony roots is reservatrol and its derivatives.
These plant compounds are known antioxidants. Therefore, they can help reduce oxidative stress in the skin. By doing this they prevent reactive oxygen species and harmful free radicals from breaking down melanocytes.
Therefore, this herbal extract ensures repigmentation by mopping up destructive byproducts of biochemical reactions from the skin.
Turmeric is a medicinal plant belonging in the ginger family.
The main phytochemicals found in turmeric root are essential oils and curcumin. Curcumin gives turmeric its color and it is often included in cosmetics and food productions for coloring properties.
However, apart from impacting a deep orange color, curcumin and its metabolites are known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties on the skin.
The antioxidant property is especially useful for protecting melanocytes from oxidative destruction by harmful free radicals and reactive oxygen species. Similarly, the anti-inflammatory properties can inhibit the cytokines that may mobilize immune cells to the skin and against melanocytes.
Safflower is an herbaceous plant that has long been used in traditional medicine.
It is cultivated chiefly for its oil but the flowers are also used in textile dyeing and traditional Chinese medicine for their ability to relieve local pain, heal bruised skin and promote blood flow.
Dong quai is also known as female ginseng or Angelica sinensis. It is a herb native to China.
The dried root is known in traditional medicine as Chinese angelica, and in Chinese medicine is used for treating anemia, fatigue and high blood pressure.
Dong quai root has an antioxidant property which can be useful for reducing the oxidative stress on the skin. By blocking these harmful reactive species, the survival rate of melanocytes rises and melanin production can proceed.
Vitilax oil is a complementary product to Vitilax capsules. When rubbed on the skin regularly, it can stimulate melanin production from melanocytes.
The oil should be applied on the vitiligo spots once or twice daily. Each application may be followed by exposure to 5 minutes of sunlight to speed up repigmentation of the skin.
Psoralea oil is obtained from Psoralea plant. Its main ingredients are a group of coumarins including psoralen and its metabolites.
These are photosensitive phytochemicals which darkens the skin considerably when exposed to ultraviolet irradiation. Therefore, psoralea oil can promote the repigmentation of the skin in much the same way as PUVA treatment does.
Grape seed oil is obtained from the seeds of grapes. Although grape seeds are rich in antioxidants, only a small amount get through when the oil is expressed from the seeds.
However, the residual antioxidant effects in grape seed oil can still help protect melanocytes from oxidative destruction from harmful free radicals.
Besides, its medicinal benefits, grape seed oil has cosmetic benefits. It is a good moisturizer and it is a carrier oil for other essential oils. Therefore, it can also serve as a carrier for the other oils in Vitilax oil.
Carrot seed oil is extracted from the seeds of carrot. Its main constituents are flavones: luteolin and its metabolites.
These constituents do have antioxidant properties. Therefore, they can promote melanin production by protecting melanocytes from oxidative destruction.
Bergamot oil is extracted from Bergamot oranges. It is a common constituent of fragrances because of its unique aroma. It also has a cooling effect on the skin as well as antiseptic properties.
Bergamot oil also contains psoralen which is known to promote the repigmentation of vitiligo patches.
Viti-Nutrients tablets contain vitamins, minerals and amino acids that promote skin repigmentation. They are recommended to be used along with Vitilax capsules.
The B vitamins are important vitamins in the treatment of vitiligo. Different studies have found that vitiligo patients have low levels of some of these vitamins especially vitamins B6 and B9.
Vitamin B6, B9 and B12 are the 3 most important B vitamins recommended to be taken as supportive nutritional supplements for vitiligo patients.
These vitamins prevent the accumulation of homocysteine. The accumulation of homocysteine produces reactive oxygen species and free radicals that increase the oxidative stress on the skin.
Vitamin C is an even more powerful antioxidant although its antioxidant property is expressed differently.
Besides protecting melanocytes from oxidative damage, these vitamins also protect melanocytes from autoimmune attack. Lastly, some of them supply the needed parts for the production of tyrosine and then melanin.
L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine are amino acids important to melanin production.
L-phenylalanine is a precursor of L-tyrosine while L-tyrosine is used for synthesizing melanin. Therefore, supplementation with these amino acids directly increases melanin production by supplying the needed building blocks for melanin production.
The minerals included in Viti-Nutrients also serve as nutritional supply for improving skin health and boosting the production of melanin. Some of them even have antioxidant properties needed to protect melanocytes.
Is Vitilax effective? Yes especially when the 3 components of the vitiligo kit are used.
Vitilax treats vitiligo through multiple pathways and it covers all the factors known to cause vitiligo including oxidative stress, autoimmune attack and even nutritional deficiencies.
The herbal extracts included in Vitilax are safe and effective. However, the combination of 14 different herbs may cause drug interaction especially when Vitilax is combined with other vitiligo treatments. Therefore, you should consult your physician before taking Vitilax.
Also, since Vitilax contains multiple psoralen-containing ingredients, it is possible for users to experience side effects of this phytochemical. However, the amount of psoralen present in Vitilax is much lower than the dose used in PUVA.
Therefore, there is less chance of that such side effects may occur.
Vitilax is manufactured in an FDA-approved factory and it is sourced and manufactured according to high standards. It is safe for long-term use.
Most users of Vitilax start seeing the first signs of repigmentation within the first 2 months. Only severe cases take as long as 3 months. Repigmentation starts with the white patches going pink before darkening to match the normal, pigmented skin.
