Vigamaxx Review

Unlike most prostate supplements, Vigamaxx contains a unique blend of Chinese herbs. Instead of proven and popular prostate herbs such as saw palmetto and stinging nettle, Vigamaxx contains kudzu, lingzhi, spirulina, cynomorium and cordyceps. Are these ingredients also effective for improving prostate health or are they just included to boost sexual performance? Read on to find out.

What is Vigamaxx?

Vigamaxx is an oral herbal supplement from Enhanced Nutraceutical formulated to help improve prostate and sexual health in men.

The information available on the product’s website indicates that Vigamaxx can help relieve all the symptoms of an enlarged prostate as well as boost sexual performance.

Unlike most prostate herbal products, Vigamaxx does not contain popular herbs such as saw palmetto or stinging nettle. In fact, the product’s manufacturers believe that the exclusion of these popular herbs makes Vigamaxx a unique and more effective supplement for treating prostate problems.

In place of those popular herbs, Vigamaxx contains a proprietary blend of active ingredients including lingzhi mushroom, cordyceps, cynomorium, kudzu, and spirulina. All these ingredients are well known in Asian traditional medicine for their medicinal benefits.

Dosage and Side Effects of Vigamaxx

The recommended starting dose of Vigamaxx is one tablet daily for three consecutive days. Thereafter, a period of 3 to 4 days should be allowed in-between each tablet afterward. However, users with a chronic prostate condition should continue with one daily tablet until symptoms improve.

For those suffering from hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes, a lower starting dose is recommended. This should be half a tablet daily for three days.

Common complaints from users of this herbal product include facial flushing and a slight increase in body temperature. This is due to the increased blood flow triggered by some of the active ingredients of the supplement.

Other minor side effects reported by users are nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, blurred vision, stomach upsets, and nose bleed.

The Active Ingredients of Vigamaxx

Lingzhi Mushroom

Lingzhi mushroom, also known as the reishi mushroom, belongs to a genus of fungal species known as Ganoderma. It is one of the oldest medicinal mushrooms known in Chinese traditional medicine.

Medicinal Properties of Lingzhi
  • Antitumor
  • Immunomodulatory
  • Antineoplastic
  • Antiviral
  • Antibacterial
  • Anti-androgen
  • Cholesterol-lowering

The fruiting bodies and mycelia of lingzhi contain bioactive compounds such as terpenes, polysaccharides, and ganoderic caids that are responsible for most of its therapeutic actions.

Specifically, the ganoderic acids have been associated with antiviral and antibacterial activities. This can help prevent and relieve prostate inflammation caused by a bacterial infection.

However, the primary reason for including lingzhi as an ingredient in Vigamaxx is because it inhibits the enzyme (5-alpha reductase) required for the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT, the androgen mostly responsible for prostate enlargement in men).

By inhibiting this enzyme, lingzhi inhibits the production and action of DHT in the prostate. This consequently relieves and improves the symptoms of prostate enlargement in men.

The ganoderic acids found in the fungus are known to inhibit certain enzymes. These acids have also been shown to reduce the level of cholesterol in the body. Because cholesterol is a precursor of androgen hormones, lowering cholesterol levels can improve prostate health in men by reducing the amount of DHT in the prostate.

Cordyceps

Cordyceps (Cordyceps sinensis) is another fungus found in Vigamaxx. Cordyceps actually refers to different species of fungi that are insect parasites.

Cordyceps sinensis is the most popular species of this group, therefore, the term cordyceps is often used to refer to Cordyceps sinensis. It has a long history of medicinal use in Asia where it commonly grows.

Although this fungus has demonstrated some therapeutic effects in studies involving animal models, most of its medicinal claims have not been properly examined and confirmed by clinical studies in humans.

Among its therapeutic properties, the antioxidant activity of cordyceps is most likely the main reason it is included as an ingredient of Vigamaxx. This antioxidant activity can help reduce oxidative stress on the cells of the prostate and urinary tract by mopping up free radicals and reactive oxygen species.

In addition, this fungus contains active phytochemicals (such as polysaccharide and cordycepin) with proven anti-cancer activities. Therefore, it may help reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

Cynomorium

Cynomorium (Cynomorium coccineum) is a parasitic plant that usually grows in the form of a rhizome. It is commonly found attached to the roots and undergrowth of its host plant. The bioactive phytochemicals in cynomorium include anthocyanic glycosides, triterpenoid saponins, and lignans.

This plant is an important active ingredient of Vigamaxx because it is primarily responsible for the product’s ability to improve sexual health.

Cynomorium has been used for centuries in Chinese traditional medicine to treat impotence and erectile dysfunction. This herb is now commonly available as an ingredient in various herbal supplements for boosting male sexual performance.

Besides improving men’s health, cynomorium has also demonstrated estrogenic activities in clinical studies. It is, therefore, now used by women to improve irregular menstruation. However, this estrogenic activity may negatively affect men with prostate enlargement.

Estrogen protects DHT from enzymatic breakdown. Therefore, estrogen has been linked to prostate enlargement and the phytoestrogens in cynomorium can actually worsen the symptoms of BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). This means that even though the herb was included in Vigamaxx to improve sexual difficulties caused by prostate problems, it may actually trigger prostate problems.

Kudzu

Kudzu is a plant that belongs to the pea family. Although originally native to Asia, kudzu was introduced to the US and it is now considered an invasive weed.

Kudzu is eaten in Asia especially in China where it is included in a number of local dishes. Besides its culinary use, the herb is regarded as one of the fundamental herbs in Chinese traditional medicine.

Kudzu contains bioactive isoflavones with estrogenic properties. Plant-derived estrogens, like the isoflavones in kudzu, have been shown to reduce the risks of cancers including breast cancers in women and prostate cancer in men.

In addition, these isoflavones also have antioxidant properties, and can, therefore, help protect the prostate from oxidative damage.

Another medicinal benefit of kudzu is its anti-inflammatory properties. This can help prevent and reduce prostate inflammation.

Spirulina

Spirulina belongs to a group of bacteria known as cyanobacteria. It is edible and consumed by humans and animals.

Spirulina is rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals. It is also available as a dietary supplement.

Spirulina is included in Vigamaxx because it is rich in minerals (such as zinc and selenium) essential for proper prostate health. Along with these minerals, spirulina contains high amounts of essential vitamins such as the B-group vitamins (except vitamin B12), vitamins A, K, E, and C. These vitamins also improve prostate health.

Is Vigamaxx Effective?

Vigamaxx is advertised to help treat prostate problems and improve the sexual problems associated with them. However, its ingredients suggest that it can only be effective for improving sexual health in men.

In fact, reviews gathered from the product’s official website itself were mainly praising the efficacy of the herb in improving sexual performance. Only a few reviews mentioned that the supplement was also useful for improving prostate health.

Independent reviewers and user testimonies elsewhere online also highlighted the fact that Vigamaxx was more effective for boosting sexual performance in men than for improving prostate health.

The choice of the ingredients in Vigamaxx is rather curious because there are no clinical studies demonstrating that any of them can improve prostate health. In addition, none of the well-known and classic natural remedies for prostate problems is included in Vigamaxx.

Furthermore, some of the active ingredients in Vigamaxx can actually cause prostate enlargement.

For instance, kudzu and cynomorium can increase estrogenic activities in the prostate. Both of these herbs contain phytoestrogens and these prolong the activity of DHT in the prostate.

Therefore, while Vigamaxx may actually be helpful for improving sexual performance and libido, it is not likely to be effective for improving prostate health and can provide no relief from symptoms of prostate disorders.
