EMF Radiation is Keeping You Up At Night

EMF radiation: what is that? This form of radiation is emitted by all electronics- but is particularly strong in wireless electronics. You won't believe how many health problems are related to these radio waves- including insomnia and sleeplessness.

EMF radiation is something that few people talk about, or even know about. However, it surrounds us in our modern world and little is known about these strange waves. These waves could be responsible for a variety of health conditions, including your lack of sleep at night.

Studies show that our exposure rate to EMF waves continues to increase (the estimated exposure rate is 100 million times more than the exposure rate from 100 years ago), but still, mainstream science is not sure what the danger of high sources of artificial waves might be.

However, recent studies have uncovered that EMF waves could be more dangerous than we think- causing problems like insomnia and sleep disruption, as well as other health risks that could be deadly.

What Are EMFs?

An EMF is simply an abbreviation for electromagnetic fields. These are basically all of the wireless electromagnetic waves from sources like power lines, radios, and microwaves. There are two types of EMF waves- natural and manmade.

Natural EMFs are simply fields created by the earth and the human body. These waves are called extremely low-frequency waves (ELFs, usually 10 hertz or below). In fact, some studies have indicated that EMF waves are how the cells in your body speak to one another.

Artificial EMFs are waves created by human technology. You may be surprised at the sources of EMFs in our daily life. Even your hairdryer sends off EMF waves. The trouble with artificial EMF waves is that we are largely unaware of what the waves are doing to our bodies. In most people, EMF waves are undetectable and produce no visible side effects. However, a few people are sensitive to the waves and may show signs of sensitivity.

Do I Have EMF Sensitivity?

Although some people doubt the existence of EMF sensitivity, a study from 1991 conducted by the Environmental Health Center in Dallas showed that EMF sensitivity was real. The study looked at 100 people claiming to be sensitive to the waves. The researchers then conducted a series of tests where the study participants were exposed to steadily increasing amounts of EMF radiation (still within government-approved safety levels).

25 of these participants had adverse effects when exposed to even extremely low levels of radiation (around 5 MHz). At the highest levels of radiation in the study, 100 percent of the participants reacted to the radiation. Side effects included autonomic nervous system changes, increased heart rate, depression, and a 20% decrease in pulmonary function. The symptoms lasted for up to 3 days.

A study from Switzerland estimates that up to 8 percent of people are severely affected by EMF waves, and 35 percent are mildly affected.

You can determine if you are sensitive to EMF waves by noting the following symptoms while you are near sources of EMF waves, such as a television, wireless internet, or cell phone tower.

Symptoms of EFM Sensitivity
  • Difficulty sleeping in rooms with wireless electronics
  • Skin rashes or burning
  • Skin tingling
  • Chronic fatigue and weakness
  • Unexplained headaches
  • Chest pain
  • Heart problems
  • Confusion
  • Poor concentration
  • Memory loss

Dangers of EMF Poisoning

EMF waves emanate from more sources than most people realize. It is not just cell phones and wireless Internet. In fact, every electronic device in the world products some amount of EMF radiation. A few of the largest sources for EMF waves are listed below:

Sources of EMF Radiation
  • Cell phone towers
  • Electrical plants
  • Medical products
  • Industrial products
  • Cell phones
  • Televisions
  • Baby monitors
  • Home wiring
  • Microwaves
  • Wireless Internet
  • Laser equipment (pointers, projectors, printers, etc)
  • Remote controls
  • Cameras
  • Electric blankets
  • Electric toothbrushes
  • CD and DVD players
  • Wireless game controllers
  • Florescent lights
  • Radar
  • Walkie-talkies
  • Security systems
  • Humidifiers

Eventually, due to all this exposure to EMF waves, it is possible to become poisoned by EMF radiation.

How? The waves cause a disruption in the body’s cells, making it difficult for the body to function normally. This is why insomnia often occurs as a side effect, simply because EMF waves can interfere with the production of sleep hormones as well as others.

Common dangers of EMF poisoning include:

  • Increased cancer risk
  • DNA fragmentation
  • Fertility problems
  • Attention problems
  • Reduced immunity
  • Increased allergies
  • Neurotoxicity
  • Increased risk for autism
  • Greater total inflammation
  • Memory loss
  • Chronic insomnia
  • Faster tumor growth rates

Studies on EMF Poisoning and Sensitivity

EMF poisoning risks are well documented, although mainstream medicine usually does not admit to this fact. In fact, most major health organizations, like the World Health Organization, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Center for Disease Control all state that the risk from EMF waves is negligible.

However, many studies outline the potentially dangerous risks of these waves, including the following studies:

In 2008, researchers from France found that radio frequencies from cell phones are absorbed into the brain. The study did not examine how dangerous the absorption was, but the potential for the development for brain tumors and other neurological disorders are high.

In 2009, researchers from Australia found that EMF radiation fragments DNA, making it harder for it to reproduce.

In 2010, researchers from Germany found that children exposed to EMF had a higher risk of behavior problems.

A 2010 study from Russia found that EMF exposure lowers the immune system response.

A 2012 report on over 1800 studies on EMF exposure was evaluated by the BioInitiative Group consisting of doctors and scientists from 10 countries around the world. The researchers found that EMF exposure results in gene toxicity, DNA fragmentation, neurotoxicity, fertility suppression, behavior problems in children, increased risk for autism, tumor growth, increased sleep disruption, memory loss, more allergies, more inflammation, reduced immunity, and delayed reactions.

These studies found that fetuses and children were at the highest risk for seeing problems related to EMF exposure.

Triggers for Increased EMF Sensitivity

Certain factors may increase your risk for sensitivity to the waves. Two of the main triggers are metal toxicity and metal dental fillings. According to radiation expert Dr. Theresa Dale, heavy metals can make your body more sensitive to radiation. Metal from contaminated fish, aluminum cans, drinking water filled with high concentrations of metal, and other sources of metal in your diet can virtually transform your body into a walking antenna for concentrated radiation.

Metal in your body and mouth can also contribute to an increased risk for radiation exposure. Dentists Lina Garcia has stated that the use of metal dental fillings and implants can increase the risk of radiation exposure and poisoning by transforming the mouth into an antenna for radiation.

Does the Government Regulate EMF Radiation?

The United States government does have EMF regulation standards for industrial and medical devices. However, the FDA does not regulate many radiation-emitting consumer products. The FDA leaves the regulation of the radiation-emission to the manufacturer of the product. The FDA requires that manufacturers inform the FDA if unsafe levels of radiation are exposed.

Given that radiation damage is difficult to prove on a short-term basis, it is possible that millions of people are exposed to unsafe levels of radiation from consumer products every day. Some manufacturers likely suppress any safety issues with their products to boost their company image.

In case of proven consumer radiation damage, the FDA requires manufacturers to notify users of the health hazard and repair or replace the damaging products.

Are EMF Waves Really Dangerous?

The scientific studies surrounding EMF waves are somewhat ambiguous. About 50 percent state that EMF waves are harmful, while the other 50 percent state they are not.

According to a 2004 report from the National Radiological Protection Board, the damage of EMF waves is unknown. However, recent studies have indicated that the likelihood of EMF waves causing serious health concerns are real, and should not be ignored.

Electronics and EMFs Destroy Your Sleep

One proven side effect of EMF radiation and electronic devices are the effects they have on your sleep. According to Harvard Medical School and many other studies, electronic devices interfere with sleep due to the blue light they emit.

Blue light has been proven to interfere with the production of sleep hormones, making your nights restless and unhealthy.

Am I At Risk for EMF Poisoning?

Unfortunately, everyone alive today is at risk for EMF poisoning. Your risks increase if you live near electrical towers, cell phone towers, electrical plants, industrial manufacturing plants or if you have mental fillings or dental work, or a high build-up of metals in other areas of your body (such as metal replacement joints).

Get Better Sleep by Limiting EMF Radiation

Although there are likely other long-term benefits of avoiding EMF exposure, one of the most immediate benefits is improved sleep. Take the following steps to improve your sleep and reduce your EMF exposure:

Reduce Cell Phone Use

Try not to use your cell phone on a regular basis. Keep it away from your body when not in use. Keeping it away from reproductive areas and your head is especially important. Avoid using a cell phone while pregnant. Use a landline, if possible.

Reduce Use of Wireless Devices

Wireless devices emit more EMF radiation than wired devices. Try to use wired devices when possible. Keep all wireless devices out of the bedroom if you must use them at all.

Remove Metal From Your Body

If possible, remove your metal fillings and other dental work. Dental implants can now be done with ceramics and metal hybrids that do not create a battery-like region in your mouth. A metal detox may also be helpful in removing excess metal from your body.

Distance Yourself from Phone Towers

If possible, try to stay as far away from cell phone towers, electrical towers and power stations, and any other large source of radio or electrical frequencies. This will help you feel better and sleep better.

Keep Electronics Out of the Bedroom

Any electronic device that emits blue light (which is most) should not be in the bedroom. You will sleep better if you remove all electronic devices from your bedroom.

Additional Steps for Better Sleep

There are a few other things you can do to improve your sleep faster. If EMF waves and blue light have interfered with your sleep hormone production, it may take a while before your hormones are regulated once more. You may be able to help speed the process along by taking the following supplements:

Inositol

Inositol helps the brain regulate neurotransmitters, like acetylcholine and serotonin (which boost mood and promote rest). Inositol helps regulate anxiety that often accompanies insomnia.

GABA

GABA is an amino acid that helps regulate the neurotransmitters in the brain. It promotes rest and sleep. According to Web MD, many cases of insomnia are tied to low GABA levels.

Magnesium

Magnesium is a mineral that is beneficial for almost every function in the brain. For sleep disorders, magnesium can relieve tension and promote rest. Web MD states that increasing magnesium intake can significantly reduce insomnia symptoms.

5-HTP (5-Hydroxy Tryptophan)

5-HTP is a neurotransmitter that regulates sleep hormones, sleep patterns, and mood. It is a precursor to serotonin. The University of Maryland Medical Center states that supplementing with 5-HTP can improve insomnia symptoms and boost healthy sleep patterns.

Melatonin

Melatonin is the sleep hormone that EMF devices disrupt. The body naturally regulates melatonin levels on its own, but the production of this hormone can become disrupted. Supplementing with melatonin can temporarily boost the levels of the hormone in your body helping you sleep better. There are some studies that state melatonin supplements may not be safe for long-term use, as they could prevent your body from creating its own source after time. However, for temporary use, it is beneficial for promoting sleep.

EMF Exposure and Your Sleep Health

EMF radiation is a growing problem that many health professionals are simply ignoring. Although there are many studies that suggest that EMF radiation is potentially dangerous in a variety of ways, it is proven that electronic devices and EMF radiation interfere with healthy sleep and promote insomnia. If you can’t sleep at night and have no other explanations for your sleeplessness, EMF radiation may be to blame.

Reduce your exposure to EMF radiation by using wired devices when possible, and never keep electronic devices in the bedroom. Combine the reduction of EMF radiation with the intake of sleep-promoting supplements and you will likely find that your sleep problems disappear- and you may be improving your health in other, hidden ways as well.
