Flexicose

Flexicose is an effective joint support formula but its standout feature is its liquid formulation which improves the absorption of its active ingredients.

What is Flexicose?

Flexicose is an oral liquid formulation intended for treating joint pain and for promoting joint health. It is available in 4 variants: the basic Flexicose, Pet Flexicose, FlexicosePlus and FlexicosePlus for Athletes.

Flexicose is produced by DTC Health. There are 14 natural compounds in Flexicose. Each of these has been shown to be useful for treating joint diseases and relieving joint pain.

Compared to analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs and other conventional medications used in arthritis care, the ingredients of Flexicose are safer and produce far less side effects while producing comparable therapeutic effects.

By combining different natural remedies used for treating degenerative diseases of the joint, Flexicose addresses the root problem through different means and, therefore, produces an overall remarkable relief of joint pain.

The Different Versions of Flexicose

Flexicose and Pet Flexicose contain the same ingredients.

However, the pet version carries a different label instruction. This is to account for the different weights and needs of animals and provide the best doses to provide them the most benefit.

FlexicosePlus contains all of the ingredients of Flexicose plus one more. The only additional ingredient of FlexicosePlus is hyaluronic acid. In addition, the strengths of Chondroitin and MSM added to this version are greater than the strengths used in Flexicose.

Furthermore, FlexicosePlus uses Stevia as sweetener. Therefore, it is the Flexicose of choice for diabetics, weight watchers and people who prefer not to have sugar in their medications.

FlexicosePlus for athletes is simply a rebranding of FlexicosePlus for athletes and bodybuilders.

Overall, FlexicosePlus contains half the calories in Flexicose. Where Flexicose contains 1.5 mg of MSM and 120 mg of Chondroitin, FlexicosePlus contains 100 mg of MSM and 400 mg of Chondroitin.

All Flexicose versions are formulated as liquids. The use of liquid formulation over solid dosage forms such as capsules and tablets is done to improve the bioavailability of the various ingredients of Flexicose.  This is because drugs formulated as liquids can be absorbed faster than solid dosage forms because they do not need to be disintegrated and dissolved before absorption can begin.

The Ingredients of Flexicose

Glucosamine

Glucosamine is an amino sugar that is naturally found in bones, marrows and the exoskeleton of arthropods. The glucosamine included in Flexicose is sourced from shellfish. Therefore, it may trigger allergic reactions in people who have shellfish allergy.

Glucosamine is converted into glycosaminoglycans which make up the cartilage.

Therefore, it can help restore lost cartilage and reverse the degeneration which is the chief cause of joint pain in arthritis patients.

Glucosamine is one of the drugs used in the GAIT study. It was found to be especially effective when combined with chondroitin to relieve moderate to severe joint pain.

It is a safe supplement. Its side effects are mild gastrointestinal upsets and they usually occur at high doses.

Flexicose includes both glucosamine HCl and glucosamine sulfate. This is important given that there is an ongoing debate about which of the glucosamine salt is more effective. While the GAIT study used the HCl salt, some have argued that more positive results were seen in studies using the sulfate salt.

Chondroitin

Chondroitin is glycosaminoglycan made up of 2 alternative monosaccharides: D-glucuronic acid and N-acetyl-D-galactosamine. These monosaccharides then form polysaccharides of varying lengths and each monosaccharide can carry zero, one or two sulfate groups.

Chondroitin is responsible for the cushioning effect of the cartilage in the joint.

It is needed to give elasticity and flexibility to the joint. When it is lost, the cartilage loses its ability to flex and soften the weight of the body.

Chondroitin is also safe for use and produces minor side effects similar to those of glucosamine.

There are 2 main sources of chondroitin: shark cartilage and bovine or cattle cartilage. The chondroitin used in Flexicose is obtained from the latter source.

MSM

MSM or methylsulfonylmethane is a safe source of sulfur for the body. It is often combined with one of or both chondroitin and glucosamine in the treatment of arthritis.

MSM provides the sulfur needed for the formation and strengthening of connective tissues such as the cartilages and ligaments linking bones and joints.

A number of studies have also demonstrated the benefits of MSM in arthritis treatment. It has been shown to be useful in reducing joint pain and improving movement in arthritic limbs.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is also a glycosaminoglycan like chondroitin.

However, it carries no sulfate groups in its chain. This polysaccharide is found in many parts of the body and rapidly used up in the body and needs constant replenishment.

Hyaluronic acid forms a membrane coat around each cell of the cartilage. It attracts special proteins, aggregated together with other glycosaminoglycans which then absorb water to provide the resistance to compression for the cartilage.

The hyaluronic acid supplied in Flexicose can help repair the cartilage as well as stimulate the production of more hyaluronic acid in the body to perform the same function.

Therefore, by regenerating damaged cartilage, hyaluronic acid relieves joint pain.

Manganese

Manganese is a trace nutrient in the body. It serves as cofactor for several enzymes in the body. Most of these enzymes remove reactive oxygen species from the body.

Most of the manganese present in the human body is stored in the bones where it contributes to the mineralization of these bones. Manganese also contributes to the regeneration of the cartilages.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera is the classic all-round healer. It contains a number of potent phytochemicals as well as vitamin B12 and minerals. Aloe vera can also reduce the swelling and discomfort experienced with arthritis joints.

It will also contribute to the repair of the cartilage.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

The 2 omega 3 fatty acids included in Flexicose are Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). They reduce inflammation and promote blood flow to inflamed joints. These actions also contribute significantly to the reduction of joint pain.

Boswellia

Boswellia serrata extract is the fragrant resin obtained from the boswellia tree known to also produce incense.

The boswellic acids in boswellia are responsible for its therapeutic effects. They produce their anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting LTB4, a leukotriene, and also by preventing the degranulation of mast cells.

The analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of boswellia are comparable to those of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) but boswellia produces none of the side effects of NSAIDs such as gastrointestinal upsets and ulcers.

Vitamin B3

Vitamin B3 has been shown to improve arthritis symptoms by increasing the release of adrenal hormone which has an anti-inflammatory property. This vitamin plays a supportive role in the ability of Flexicose to reduce joint pain.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid has an antioxidant property which can protect the joint by preventing the degeneration of the cartilage by harmful free radicals.

It is also needed for the formation of collagen which makes up the structure of ligaments, cartilages and other connective tissues. Therefore, vitamin C serves an active supportive role in Flexicose.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is also an antioxidant. However, it also has a direct contribution to bone mineralization. Vitamin A deficiency leads to low bone density and osteoporosis.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is another antioxidant. A study found that its ability to reduce joint pain is comparable to that of diclofenac.

Bromelain

Bromelain refers to a number of protein-digestive enzymes extracted from pineapple. It is mostly obtained from the stems although it is found in all parts of the plant.

It is used for tenderizing meat. The medicinal uses of bromelain depend on its anti-inflammatory properties. To prevent inflammation, bromelain inhibits the migration of neutrophils to sites of inflammation.

It has been suggested as a treatment option for reducing inflammation in arthritis patients. Some reports say it is as effective as NSAIDs in relieving pain.

Yucca

Yucca is a large family of related shrubs and trees. It is a flowering ornamental plant native to North and Central America.

Yucca extracts have been shown to relieve joint pain. Some of the phytochemicals found in this plant have antioxidant properties which can help protect the cartilages of joints from oxidative damage from free radicals.

How to Use Flexicose

Flexicose can be bought from the manufacturer’s website, www.flexicose.com, or from its distributors in health clubs, food stores, doctors’ offices and on Amazon.

The recommended daily dose of Flexicose is ½ - 1 tablespoon. You can use double this dose for the first 2 weeks of treatment in order to achieve faster results.

Since it is a liquid preparation, shake well before taking out of it. Once opened, Flexicose should be kept refrigerated.

Flexicose is safe to use and produces only minor side effects. These side effects are minor and mostly gastrointestinal upset from glucosamine and chondroitin. People who have shellfish allergy should avoid this product because of its glucosamine content.

Flexicose does not produce immediate relief since it treats the root causes of joint pain rather than its symptoms. Its ability to relieve joint pain will therefore be cumulative and increase as you take it for longer.

Is Flexicose Effective?

Given the number of anti-arthritis remedies packed in Flexicose, it is no wonder then that most users report positive benefits. These active ingredients address arthritis through multiple pathways and their effects are synergistic.

In addition, the liquid formulation of Flexicose makes it easy for the body to absorb its active ingredients.

Flexicose formulations are also flavored (mixed berry flavor for Flexicose and vanilla-citrus flavor for FlexicosePlus). These flavors make the formulations easier to take and improve compliance amongst its users.

However, it may take weeks and even months to see the benefits of Flexicose. This long waiting period may frustrate some users. Because it may take a while to see the first signs of benefits, DTC Health provides a 90-day money back guarantee.

Also, the liquid formulation of Flexicose is both an advantage and a disadvantage.

While this formulation improves the absorption and bioavailabilities of the active ingredients, it also means that the gastrointestinal side effects due to chondroitin and glucosamine are amplified.

This effect is more pronounced with FlexicosePlus which has more than 3 times the amount of chondroitin in Flexicose.

Even then these side effects are not serious and are easily controlled. They are also far milder than the side effects produced by conventional arthritis drugs.

In conclusion, Flexicose provides an overall benefit for relieving joint pains and other symptoms of arthritis.
