Osteo Sport is a uniquely formulated joint support formula. It includes both classic and new anti-arthritis remedies. Some of these ingredients provide immediate relief; some provide intermediate relief; and others have extended activities. Find out how Osteo Sport achieves a near-perfect blend of these remedies.

What is Osteo Sport?

Osteo sport is a joint support formula manufactured by Applied Nutriceuticals for athletes.

Although it is meant for supporting the high-intensity performance of athletes and bodybuilders, it can also be used by anyone.

This unique joint support formulation contains a blend of herbal extracts, digestive enzymes, and glycosaminoglycans. These active ingredients support and contribute to the repair of cartilages, tendons, and joints; they lubricate and cushion the joints, and they promote the distribution of essential nutrients to the connective tissues supporting bones.

In formulating Osteo Sport, the manufacturer included active ingredients that provide quick action as well as those that provide intermediate relief and long-term support for joints.

These different therapeutic effects are achievable by varying the period of time each active ingredient is released. Below is a table categorizing the active ingredients of Osteo Sport by release time.

Osteo-Sport Ingredients
  • Immediate Release – Bromelain, CurcuminCissus quadrangularis, Bioperine and Vitamin C
  • Intermediate Release – Cetyl myristoleate, MSM and Hyaluronic acid

By providing these 3 separate release profiles, Osteo Sport gets the most out of each active ingredient by using it according to its strength.

For example, both glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are needed for the long-term repair of damaged cartilages. This will take a while to achieve and the two active ingredients will not contribute to immediate pain relief.  However, Bioperine provides instant pain relief and needs to be made available quickly.

The Ingredients of Osteo Sport

Bromelain

Bromelain is a complex of protein-digesting enzymes obtained from the stems of pineapple.

Its culinary use is as a meat tenderizer but it is also used in traditional medicine to reduce arthritic swelling and pain.

Bromelain possesses anti-inflammatory properties and it works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins and proinflammatory cytokines. It also interferes with the signaling of leukotrienes, neutrophils, and fibrin to the site of inflammation.

There have been a number of studies examining the benefits of Bromelain for treating sports-related injuries.

In one such study conducted by a German health committee, 80 – 120 mg of Bromelain taken 2 – 3 times daily was found to be effective for relieving joint pain and treating athletic injuries.

Similar studies in the US have demonstrated that Bromelain daily doses as high as 1200 – 1800 mg was enough to relieve painful inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis.

Lastly, Bromelain does increase the effectiveness of some of the other active ingredients of Osteo Sport.

By combining Bromelain with Cissus and Curcumin, the therapeutic effects of all 3 agents are enhanced.

Curcumin

Curcumin is the active ingredient in ginger.

It has been shown to possess a wide variety of medicinal properties including antimicrobial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Curcumin specifically inhibits prostaglandins and leukotrienes such as PGE2, LTB4, and LTC4. It also inhibits other enzymes such as elastase, collagenase, and hyaluronidase that may break down the cartilage and the synovial membrane.

Furthermore, curcumin blocks nitric oxide and tissue necrosis factor which promote cell death in the cartilage. It protects the chondrocytes of the cartilage and stimulates the production of new collagen for the repair of damaged cartilage.

Curcumin works best with Cissus just as they are combined in Osteo Sport.

Studies have found that by combining both active ingredients, tissue repair, and wound healing are accelerated.

Since curcumin blocks hyaluronidase, the enzyme responsible for breaking down hyaluronic acid, it protects the hyaluronic acid produced in the body while preserving the acid as it is supplied in Osteo Sport.

Cetyl Myristoleate

Cetyl myristoleate or CMO is a waxy ester derived from myristoleic acid. It was discovered 25 years before it was introduced to the market. Cetyl myristoleate is the compound that protects mice from becoming arthritic.

It is an anti-inflammatory compound that is also resistant to oxidation.

Cetyl myristoleate produces beneficial effects similar to those of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate. It lubricates joints as well as muscles allowing bones to slide over each other easily as well as softening tissues while making them pliable.

Cetyl myristoleate is also an immune modulator. Researchers have found this particular property useful for treating rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune degenerative musculoskeletal diseases.

Cetyl myristoleate produces its anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting the production of leukotrienes and controlling the synthesis of prostaglandins.

A 1997 study conducted by researchers of the Joint European Hospital Studies Program accessed the benefits of cetyl myristoleate for arthritis patients. The study results found out that cetyl myristoleate was effective for relieving arthritis symptoms but a combination of cetyl myristoleate and glucosamine produced even better results.

Other studies have demonstrated that cetyl myristoleate is an effective alternative to NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) in the treatment of osteoarthritis.

MSM

MSM or methylsulfonylmethane is an organosulfur compound that is also a natural source of sulfur in the body.

Sulfur is essential to the formation and support of healthy connective tissues. The sulfide bond between amino acids is the basis of the tensile strength of the proteins and connective tissues formed from them.

Therefore, MSM is required for the proper formation of functional tendons, ligaments, and cartilages.

MSM also changes the permeability of the cells of the cartilage. This allows the inflow of nutrients that are needed for repairs and cellular metabolism.

A number of studies have shown that MSM used alone or along with glucosamine significantly reduced joint pain and improved the joint articulation in arthritis patients.

Glucosamine

Glucosamine is an amino sugar that is naturally found in bones and bone marrows. It is a precursor of glycosaminoglycans which form the extracellular matrix that makes up the cartilage in joints.

Of the 3 salts of glucosamine, only glucosamine sulfate, which is included in Osteo Sport, has been shown to contribute to the strengthening and repair of cartilage, to the production of new glycosaminoglycans and to the lubricating quality of the synovial fluid.

Glucosamine sulfate slows down cartilage degradation. It also compares well to NSAIDs because it reduces inflammation and pain.

Chondroitin sulfate

Chondroitin sulfate belongs to a group of glycosaminoglycans called aggrecans which are naturally found in the cartilages of joints.

Unlike glucosamine, it is not a precursor but a preformed glycosaminoglycan. Unlike hyaluronic acid, which is also a glycosaminoglycan, it is sulfated.

Chondroitin is made of up 2 monosaccharides which alternate to form unbranched, long chains of varying lengths. These monosaccharides are D-glucuronic acid and N-acetyl-D-galactosamine.

Each of them can carry no, one or two sulfate groups.

Chondroitin directly contributes to the repair of damaged cartilage. It provides the cushioning effect and the flexibility of joints by presenting active resistance against the compressive force produced from impacts during exercises or normal movements.

Chondroitin also blocks the production of enzymes that break down the proteins making up the cartilage. It also inhibits nitric oxide and free radicals which can kill off chondrocytes.

Finally, chondroitin sulfate has an anti-inflammatory property.

Together with glucosamine, hyaluronic acid and MSM, chondroitin sulfate is responsible for the structural repair of damaged cartilages.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a non-sulfated glycosaminoglycan found in joints.

About a third of the hyaluronic acid produced in the body is used up protecting the joints daily. Hyaluronic acid is only one of the 2 lubricants found in synovial fluids. It increases the viscosity of the synovial fluid and promotes the frictionless sliding of bones over each other.

However, hyaluronic acid also provides structural support to the joints.

It forms a protective membrane around chondrocytes so that they are not easily destroyed by enzymes and free radicals. Hyaluronic acid is also responsible for tying together different aggrecan glycosaminoglycans such as chondroitin to make the extracellular matrix that cushions the joints.

But as we grow older, the viscosity of the synovial fluid reduces because only lightweight hyaluronic acid is produced. Therefore, we need to take in hyaluronic acid to stimulate the production of more of this lubricant as well as directly supplying it to the synovial fluid.

Bioperine

Bioperine is a trade name for piperine, an alkaloid extracted from black pepper.

It is included in Osteo Sport for a purely supportive role. Bioperine increases the absorption and bioavailability of the other active ingredients in Osteo Sport. It is estimated that Bioperine increases the absorption of these ingredients in the stomach and small intestine by 30 – 150%.

Cissus quadrangularis

Cissus quadrangularis is a perennial plant belonging to the grape family.

It is an old remedy that is extensively used in Ayurvedic medicine. It is credited with a number of medicinal qualities including analgesic and antioxidant properties. Cissus accelerates bone healing and can slow damage to the cartilage, tendon, and ligament of the joint.

This plant extract is rich in carotenoids, ascorbic acid, and triterpenoids.

Ascorbic acid

Ascorbic acid or vitamin C provides antioxidant support for the cartilage.

However, it also has a direct benefit because it promotes the conversion of proline to hydroxyproline which is then used to make collagen. Since collagen is needed for the formation of the cartilage then vitamin C is required for proper joint support.

In fact, vitamin C deficiency causes a number of symptoms ascribed to scurvy. One of these symptoms is weakened joints. Therefore, ascorbic acid can help keep up the level of vitamin C to fully support the increased collagen synthesis triggered by glucosamine, chondroitin and hyaluronic acid.

How Effective is Osteo Sport?

The recommended dose of Osteo Sport ranges from 3 – 5 capsules depending on your body weight.

Osteo Sport is a very effective oral formulation for joint support. By providing a single front for multi-functional treatment, Osteo Sport ranks high among all-natural medications used to improve joint health and repair damaged cartilage.

It may be formulated for athletes and people who undertake high-intensity exercises but the benefits of Osteo Sport can be enjoyed by anyone.

Each of the active ingredients in Osteo Sport has been clinically tested and proven to provide a significant measure of relief for treating joint pain and inflammation as well as providing joint support. In some cases, there are even clinical benefits for combining of 2 or 3 of these active ingredients to achieve greater therapeutic benefits.

However, the most important quality of Osteo Sport goes beyond the number of natural remedies it includes; the best part about Osteo Sport is how these natural remedies are combined.

By breaking down these active ingredients into fast-acting, intermediate-release, and long-term remedies, Osteo Sport strives for the gold standard in arthritis treatment. And if the testimonials from its users are to be believed, it mostly achieves it.

Most medications used to treat osteoarthritis (or any other degenerative disorder causing joint pain and inflammation) either act fast by relieving symptoms immediately or depend on the cumulative effects of their active ingredients to produce positive results a few weeks later.

However, Osteo Sport provides fast relief now while also providing the support, sustained care and joint repair all of which take a while.

Therefore, Osteo Sport is the best of both worlds.
