Eggs are a normal part of many people’s weekend breakfast, but should they be more? Find out why eggs should be part of your daily routine and how eggs can benefit your weight loss efforts below. You won’t believe what a simple egg can do.

Every day, a new trick is discovered in the search for weight loss tips. Foods are discovered, new exercise techniques are released, and diet fads are created. Americans are fatter than ever before, but we seem less able to determine how to solve the problem today than in past decades.

Some studies suggest that certain fats are the biggest cause of weight gain. Others suggest that sugar is a main contributing factor. And other studies suggest that even sitting in a traditional office job will cause you to get fat fast.

With so much conflicting information out there, it is easy to get lost in a sea of advice and simply give up. After all, it’s so much easier to pick a prepackaged meal off the shelf and eat that for dinner. However, every now and then we find that something we’ve loved for years is actually good for us and may help keep those extra pounds at bay.

The latest miracle food?

Eggs.

Why add eggs to your diet? Find out below:

Eggs Are Filling, but Low in Calories

It is common knowledge that restricting calories usually leads to weight loss. Diets such as the “Twinkie diet” illustrate that you can lose weight by just eating junk food but restricting total calorie intake. Eating junk food is unhealthier in the long run because it leads to nutrient deficiency, but you can still lose weight simply by restricting calories. What makes eggs so amazing is how filling they are while still remaining a low-calorie food.

The average egg has about 80 calories, but most people feel full after eating just two or three eggs. Add some vegetables to an egg meal and you have a complete source of nutrients that remains under 300 calories and still manages to keep you feeling full for hours.

Eggs make you feel full because they have a high protein content, which is ideal for sustained fuel. One study published by the European Journal of Nutrition in 2013 found that when study participants ate meals with eggs, they felt fuller longer than participants who ate meals without eggs, even when the calorie content of the meals were the same. Eggs are considered one of the most satiating foods.

Eggs Have an Amazing List of Nutrients

Eggs are more than just protein. The average egg has a wide range of nutrients that can help you stay healthy.

In a single egg, you will find the following nutrients:

Nutrients in Eggs
  • Vitamin A (24 percent of DRI)
  • Vitamin D (21 percent of DRI)
  • Vitamin E (12 percent of DRI)
  • Vitamin B1 (11 percent of DRI)
  • Vitamin B2 (68 percent of DRI)
  • Vitamin B6 (17 percent of DRI)
  • Folate (29 percent of DRI)
  • Vitamin B12 (52 percent of DRI)
  • Vitamin B5 (35 percent of DRI)
  • Calcium (13 percent of DRI)
  • Iron (25 percent of DRI)
  • Phosphorous (46 percent of DRI)
  • Zinc (18 percent of DRI)
  • Copper (12 percent of DRI)
  • Selenium (110 percent of DRI)

Eggs for Breakfast Keep Calorie Intake Low

For a long time, eggs were feared because of their high cholesterol content. But now that scientists understand that cholesterol intake does not significantly influence blood cholesterol levels, eggs are back on the “good” list. Adding eggs to your breakfast is not only beneficial because it will keep you feeling full longer, but they are also shown to have calorie-reducing properties that prevent individuals who eat eggs from eating as much throughout the day.

In one study published in the European Journal of Nutrition in 2013, men who ate eggs for breakfast usually at about 400 calories fewer per day even when they ate at all-you-can-eat buffets. Consuming 400 fewer calories per day can lead to significant weight loss over time, as another study showed.

In this study, published by the Journal of the American College of Nutrition in 2005, when study participants who ate eggs for breakfast were compared with a group of individuals who ate something else for breakfast, the egg group showed an additional 65 percent increase in weight loss over the participants who ate other breakfasts.

Eggs May Benefit Thyroid Function

Since eggs are a complete protein, they contain all of the essential amino acids that humans need. This means that the protein in eggs is easy to use. Eating a lot of easy-to-use protein has been shown to boost thyroid function and metabolism by a significant rate. This boost in thyroid function may be one reason why egg-eaters always seem to lose weight faster than non-egg-eating peers.

Eggs are Easy, Inexpensive, and Delicious

Adding eggs to your morning routine is easy. Most egg preparation methods are simple and take less than five minutes to complete. You can whip up an egg to eat before dashing off to work as quickly as you can down a bowl of cereal or brew a cup of coffee. And eggs will provide much greater benefits all day long that either coffee or cereal.

Eat your eggs along with fruit and vegetables and you have one of the healthiest breakfasts you can eat ready in less than 10 minutes.

Eggs Boost Weight Loss Efforts

If you can’t make any other diet changes today, try adding eggs to your breakfast. Rather than eating sugary, carb-rich foods in the morning, switch them out for eggs. Your body will thank you and you may soon see that your waistline is shrinking without any additional effort. If you are trying to lose weight, eggs should definitely be what’s for breakfast.
